Guided Fly fishing in some of best LOCAL rivers and streams

Local Rivers and Streams

Full Day of Guided Fly Fishing

$1200 (1-2 Anglers)

Our region boasts numerous rivers and streams that can be accessed via vehicle within an hours drive of Te Anau. Rivers like the Mararoa, Oreti, Aparima and Mataura are well known among anglers for their outstanding sight fisheries. Upstream dry fly and nymph fishing techniques are the standard approach for fooling a sighted fish into taking the fly.

The Southland region offers a variety of easily accessible fly fishing opportunities for wild Brown and Rainbow trout in a mix of bush and bucolic settings. The majority of clients looking for a traditional guided fly fishing experience will elect to fish the Southland region via vehicle access.

Includes fly fishing tackle, waders/boots, vehicle transport, packed lunch and pick up/drop off from Manapouri or Te Anau. It does not include your NZ fishing license. Buy your fishing license online using the Fish and Game website.

Prices are for the standard NZ fishing season (October-May) and remain valid until May 31st, 2024.

See our winter fishing page for pricing for fishing experiences in June-September.

Fiordland Wilderness

Full Day of Guided Wilderness Fly Fishing

$1200 (1-2 Anglers)

The Fiordland Wilderness streams offer some of the most untouched and ruggedly beautiful places in the world to pursue trout with a fly rod but they are not for the faint hearted.

The Fiordland weather can be unpredictable, with some parts of the region receiving an average of 7 meters of rainfall a year! Combine that with; low trout densities (in the 5-20 fish per km range), the most ferocious sandflies in the country and very physically demanding terrain, it’s no wonder that our wilderness trips are best suited to very experienced anglers who have a good level of fitness.

The majority of these locations require boat, floatplane or helicopter access, which varies in price depending on the fishing location.

Additional transport costs

Helicopter access - starting at ~$2,500-$3,500 return trip

Boat access - starting at ~ $1,995 return trip

Overnight camping option - Get better value for money out of the helicopter or boat costs by spending a night camping or staying in rustic huts and fishing for 2 days. Priced upon request.
